MIDDLE RIVER, Md. — Orville Horton and his wife Frances are celebrating after winning a two-night getaway to St. Michaels through the Maryland Lottery’s My Lottery Rewards (MLR) program. The couple was selected as winners in the July 3 drawing.
Orville Horton, 76, has been a member of the MLR program since its inception. The Middle River resident, who retired from a local furniture manufacturing company in 2011, now works as a consultant two days a week. This part-time work allows him ample time for travel, a passion he and his wife share. Last September, the couple enjoyed a cruise to Alaska.
Orville and Frances have often seen signs for St. Michaels during their trips to the Eastern Shore but had never visited the Talbot County town. When Orville noticed a St. Michaels trip was available through MLR, he eagerly entered his draw points.
“I said to her, ‘We need to go to St. Michaels,’” Orville recounted.
Orville’s prize includes a two-night stay at The Old Brick Inn and a resort credit for drinks, dinner, or other activities in the area. Frederick County resident Suzette Mitchell was also selected as a winner in the same drawing.
Orville remains a devoted participant in the MLR program, which began in 2013. He recalls using prize points to purchase a TV from the Westinghouse Electric Corporation years ago.
“I have been playing since it started,” he said.
The MLR program allows participants to enter non-winning scratch-offs, and winning and non-winning draw game and FAST PLAY tickets, to earn points. These points can be used to enter promotions for a chance to win various prizes, including vacations, tech packages, and gift cards.
