MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — On the evening of July 24, at approximately 10:50 p.m., a Myrtle Beach Police Department officer was dispatched to the 1200 block of Port Drive to assist the Highway Patrol in directing traffic following an overturned vehicle incident.
While on the scene, at approximately 11:15 p.m., the officer’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle. The driver of the striking vehicle was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, both the driver and the officer escaped without injuries.
The Myrtle Beach Police Department emphasizes the importance of slowing down and moving over when approaching active scenes involving police, fire, EMS, or tow trucks to ensure the safety of all those involved.
