Utica, NY – A physical altercation in Utica led to the stabbing of a woman and the subsequent arrest of 28-year-old Janay Hymes. The incident occurred on July 21st at around 1:55 AM on the 1400 block of Whitesboro Street.
Utica Police were dispatched to the scene following reports of a fight. Upon arrival, officers learned that both the victim and suspect had already left the location. The female victim, who had been stabbed multiple times, was transported to Wynn Hospital in a private vehicle. Officers met with the victim at the hospital, where she explained that during the altercation, a woman she knew brandished a sharp object and stabbed her three times in the midsection and head. Fortunately, the wounds were reported as non-life threatening.
With the case assigned to an investigator from the Criminal Investigations Division and with support from the Utica Police and Oneida County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Units, Janay Hymes was arrested and charged with assault in the second degree, criminal contempt in the first degree, and criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree.
