BOWIE, MD — A routine errand turned into a $50,000 windfall for a Bowie man, who won big playing the Maryland Lottery’s Pick 5 game on Friday.
The Prince George’s County resident, a frequent player of Pick 4 and Pick 5, was buying vitamins for his wife when he decided to stop at Hilltop Wine and Spirits. He purchased his regular games and a couple of $1 straight Pick 5 Quick Pick tickets.
“I checked the website for the winning numbers and saw that they looked awfully familiar,” said the winner. “I immediately went through my tickets and sure enough, I had a match.”
The financial analyst, who prefers to remain anonymous, was in shock upon realizing his win. He discreetly shared the news with his wife to avoid alarming their children during the family dinner.
When claiming the prize this week, he shared that he plans to use the winnings to pay bills and help his daughter purchase a car. Hilltop Wine and Spirits at 6856 Race Track Road will receive a $500 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
