Cordova, MD – A significant fire engulfed a mobile home at 29678 Schockley Lane on Monday afternoon, causing an estimated $100,000 in damages. The fire, reported at 4:06 PM, was brought under control within 45 minutes by the Cordova Volunteer Fire Company.
The mobile home, measuring 14 feet by 60 feet, was owned by Brannon Bennett and Jasmen Parzyck, who discovered the fire. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. The structure lacked a smoke alarm, and there were no fire alarms or sprinkler systems installed.
Fire officials determined the blaze started on the exterior of the home due to a mechanical and electrical failure in the water pump, and have classified the incident as accidental. The American Red Cross has been contacted to provide assistance to the displaced occupants.
