Amber Royston Obituary, Death; – I-70 West was closed on Wednesday morning following a tragic hit-and-run incident. Columbus police reported that a driver claimed to have struck an object near Brice Road at approximately 3 a.m. The driver also mentioned that their vehicle was leaking gasoline.
The victim has been identified as 38-year-old Amber Royston. According to police, at around 3:01 a.m., Royston was walking in the westbound lanes of I-70 between Brice Road and I-270 when she was hit by an unidentified vehicle.
Authorities indicated that the vehicle did not stop and continued on its way. While Royston was on the ground, she was subsequently struck by another vehicle. The driver of this second vehicle contacted the police, who arrived and pronounced Royston dead at the scene.
I-70 remained closed until approximately 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday as the Accident Investigative Unit worked to clear the area. Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact the Columbus Police or Central Ohio Crime Stoppers.
