It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dr. Michael McCombs, a highly respected internist from Dover, Ohio, who departed this life unexpectedly at the age of 59. Dr. McCombs’ sudden passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew him and in the community he served with unwavering dedication, compassion, and humility.

For over three decades, Dr. McCombs stood as a pillar of strength and stability in the medical community. Known not only for his clinical excellence but also for his kindness and sincerity, he provided care that went beyond prescriptions and diagnoses. His patients often described him as more than just a doctor — he was a confidant, a steady hand in moments of crisis, and a calming presence whose compassion never wavered. His dedication to internal medicine and his relentless pursuit of better outcomes for his patients made him not just a healer of bodies, but of spirits as well.

Dr. McCombs began his career with a strong sense of purpose, graduating with honors from medical school and completing his residency in internal medicine at a leading institution. He chose to return to his hometown of Dover, Ohio, where he could make the greatest difference. And that he did. Over the years, he built deep, lasting relationships with generations of families, treating grandparents, parents, and children with the same gentle care and professionalism.

Beyond the clinic, Dr. McCombs was known for his community involvement. Whether volunteering at local health fairs, mentoring medical students, serving on advisory boards, or speaking at town events about preventative health and wellness, he was a consistent voice for education and equity in healthcare. His passion for mentorship shaped the next generation of physicians, many of whom carry his lessons and values into their own practices today.

To his colleagues, Dr. McCombs was the embodiment of integrity. He was dependable in the most challenging of circumstances, always ready with sound advice and a willing ear. To his patients, he was a lifeline — someone who truly listened, who remembered their stories, who advocated for them even when they couldn’t advocate for themselves. To his friends and family, he was a man of humor, humility, and grace, who made time for laughter, long conversations, and genuine connection.

Dr. McCombs is survived by his loving family — including his devoted spouse, children, and grandchildren — all of whom were his greatest pride. In them, he found joy, balance, and unconditional love. His family stood at the center of his world, and he often spoke of them with pride and deep affection.

As we grieve his loss, we also celebrate his life — a life that touched thousands, a life marked by service, empathy, and enduring strength. The legacy of Dr. Michael McCombs will live on in the many lives he helped heal, the careers he inspired, and the community he uplifted. His memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who strive to serve others with compassion and purpose.

A public memorial service will be announced in the coming days to allow the community to come together and honor this extraordinary man. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Dover Community Health Initiative, a cause close to Dr. McCombs’ heart.

May his soul rest in peace, and may we all strive to carry forward the love, kindness, and excellence he so effortlessly embodied.
