INGLEWOOD, Calif. — Authorities have released new details surrounding the deadly shooting at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology, confirming that 40-year-old Jesse Figueroa, a former security guard at the college, is the suspect in an incident that left one school employee dead and another critically injured.
According to the Inglewood Police Department, Figueroa entered the campus building located at 8911 Aviation Boulevard around 3:45 p.m. on Friday and opened fire inside an office. The victims—both women and employees of the college—were shot in what officials are describing as a workplace violence incident. One of the victims, identified as Dr. Cameisha Clark, the dean of the college, was killed in the shooting. The second woman remains hospitalized, with her condition listed as critical as of Sunday morning.
Eyewitnesses and cellphone video from a nearby car rental lot captured the chaos, showing emergency responders rushing one of the victims away from the building. A campus-wide lockdown was initiated immediately after the shooting, but was later lifted when it was determined that the suspect had fled the scene.
Because Figueroa previously worked as a security guard at Spartan College, police were able to identify him and issue a description of his vehicle quickly. Hours later, investigators located the suspect’s car in Koreatown, leading to his arrest. Notably, Figueroa was reportedly wearing his security uniform during the attack.
AIR7 HD footage showed a large police response surrounding the school on Friday afternoon as authorities searched for the gunman and secured the area. Students and staff were questioned extensively by detectives as part of the ongoing investigation into what led to the tragic shooting.
The motive remains under investigation, and Figueroa is currently in custody. The Inglewood Police Department continues to work with school officials and the community in the aftermath of the violence.
Dr. Clark is being remembered by colleagues and students as a dedicated educator and leader whose impact at Spartan College was profound.
More details are expected to be released as the investigation progresses.
