Tragic Mass Shooting at Family Gathering on Cherryhill Drive in Houston’s Mayfair Neighborhood
Early on Saturday morning, May 3, 2025, a family barbecue in Houston’s Mayfair neighborhood turned into a scene of chaos and violence. At approximately 12:50 a.m., gunfire erupted in the 6000 block of Cherryhill Drive, near Loop 610 and Mykawa Road. The shooting resulted in 14 individuals being struck by gunfire, with one confirmed fatality and several others in critical condition.
Details of the Incident:
According to Houston Police Department (HPD) Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu, the violence began when an uninvited guest was asked to leave the party. As he walked away, he allegedly opened fire, prompting individuals at the gathering to return gunfire. The ensuing exchange of gunfire scattered victims throughout the property and surrounding areas. HPD officers arrived on scene within three minutes of the initial 911 call and encountered an active and rapidly evolving situation. Emergency medical responders began treating victims on-site, while others were rushed to hospitals by ambulance or private vehicles.
Response and Investigation:
Multiple individuals were detained at the scene for questioning, and police have since taken two suspects into custody, including one suspect apprehended at gunpoint. Authorities have not confirmed if either suspect is the shooter who initially opened fire.
