San Francisco, CA — Eastbound lanes on the Bay Bridge have fully reopened after a temporary shutdown Wednesday afternoon prompted by police activity near Treasure Island, officials confirmed. Despite the reopening, motorists are being warned to expect lingering traffic delays.
The incident unfolded on Interstate 80 eastbound, just west of Treasure Island, drawing a swift multi-agency response that included the California Highway Patrol (CHP), San Francisco Fire Department, and Caltrans.
CHP Sgt. Andrew Barclay stated that the police presence was in response to a behavioral health emergency involving an individual who has since been safely taken into custody. Authorities have not confirmed whether any charges will be filed at this time.
By approximately 6:40 p.m., the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management announced that the situation had been resolved and the lanes were clear for traffic.
Officials urge drivers to remain patient and, if possible, consider alternate routes as residual congestion continues to impact the evening commute.
