Bryan Hopkins, a close friend and mentor, shared heartfelt words about Megan’s impact: “It’s with a heavy heart and much hesitation I post this. Megan Whetstine passed away over the weekend. I can’t believe those words as I write them. Megan was an amazing artist and one of the strongest people I ever had the privilege of knowing.
As many of you know, she was my ‘apprentice’ for a year, and before that, she came to my studio every week to make work, talk about art and life and shit we hated, and hardcore music we loved. Ten years of laughing and crying and knowing we had each other’s backs when shit went sideways.
Megan is survived by her parents, Michael and Susan Whetstine, her siblings, friends, and her many admirers who admired her talent and her generous spirit. Her legacy will live on through her art, her contributions to the community, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and creativity.
A celebration of Megan’s life will be held at a later date, where friends and loved ones can gather to honor her memory, share stories, and pay tribute to her remarkable spirit. In the meantime, we hold her in our hearts, remembering her as a fierce, talented, and compassionate person who made the world a better place simply by being herself.
Megan Whetstine’s light may have dimmed in this world, but her spirit and the impact she made will live on eternally in those she touched. Rest in peace, Megan—you will be missed more than words can express.
