A horse had to be euthanized Thursday morning after getting hurt at Churchill Downs.
The racetrack said Valley of Fire, a 3-year-old gelding, had to be put down after fracturing both front legs during a morning workout.
The exercise rider was thrown from the horse and also injured. Officials said he was taken to the hospital with a shoulder injury.
Valley of Fire was trained by Greg Foley and owned by Tagg Team Racing, but was not an Oaks or Derby contender.
