Nikki Anthony Ra’ Cabbage Christian, a beloved and deeply respected member of the Sacramento, Kentucky community, passed away unexpectedly on April 20, 2025, at the age of 47, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Her passing has left a profound void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Nikki’s life was a remarkable testament to the power of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion—to her family, her faith, her patients, her animal companions, and her community.
A Life Rooted in Love and Family
Born on June 12, 1977, in Owensboro, Kentucky, Nikki was the cherished daughter of Anthony Ray Cabbage and Kimbra Ann Bailey Cabbage. She was a proud native of Western Kentucky and grew up with the deep values of empathy, service, and resilience that would come to define every aspect of her life. From a young age, Nikki displayed a nurturing spirit, always looking out for others and offering help before it was ever asked for.
Nikki’s early years were filled with laughter, family gatherings, church picnics, and an ever-growing love for animals and nature. She was the kind of child who would bring home stray animals and nurse them back to health, showing a compassion that surpassed her years. Her love for the natural world was not a phase—it was a calling that would stay with her for life.
She graduated from McLean County High School in 1995, a proud member of a close-knit class where she was known for her warm smile, gentle heart, and tireless work ethic. Her friendships from high school remained strong throughout her life, a testament to the authenticity and loyalty she brought to all of her relationships.
Devoted Wife, Loving Mother, Cherished Grandmother
On December 6, 1997, Nikki married the love of her life, Jarrod Donovan Christian. Their union was one built on mutual respect, shared values, and a deep love that endured through all of life’s highs and lows. Together, they raised two beautiful children—Jackson Christian and Jaci Christian—who were the center of Nikki’s world. Her role as a mother was one she embraced with all her heart. From early morning school drop-offs to late-night talks, sports events, recitals, and everyday moments in between, Nikki was always present, always giving, always loving.
Her children remember her not only as a provider and caretaker but as a friend and confidant—someone they could turn to with anything, knowing they’d be met with love and understanding. Jackson, along with his partner Savannah Healy, gifted Nikki one of her greatest joys later in life: her granddaughter, Blair Avery Christian. Nikki’s love for Blair was boundless. She delighted in every smile, every giggle, every new word—and she embraced her new role as “Nana” with pride and boundless affection.
In later years, Nikki found love and companionship once again with Ed Rhinerson of Windy Hollow. Their relationship was marked by mutual support, shared passions, and quiet moments of joy. Ed was her rock, her partner, and a significant source of happiness.
A Compassionate Healer: Twenty Years of Service in Nursing
Nikki’s professional life was one of profound purpose. For over two decades, she served as a registered nurse at Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, Kentucky. Her career was not just a job—it was a ministry. She approached each patient with care, dignity, and an unwavering commitment to their well-being. Her colleagues admired her skill, her work ethic, and above all, her heart.
Nursing, for Nikki, was about more than charts and medications. It was about connecting with people in their most vulnerable moments, offering not just clinical care but human compassion. She was the nurse who stayed past her shift to hold a hand. She remembered birthdays. She followed up on patients long after discharge. She saw each person as someone’s loved one—someone deserving of her best.
Her co-workers often describe her as a calming presence in the most stressful situations, a leader in times of uncertainty, and a mentor to new nurses who learned so much simply by watching her lead with integrity. Her impact was immeasurable and continues to resonate throughout the halls of the hospital where she gave so much of herself.
A Faithful Servant: Active Member of Sacramento Baptist Church
Nikki was a devout Christian whose faith was not merely professed—it was lived. As a lifelong member of Sacramento Baptist Church, her spiritual life was deeply woven into her daily actions. She taught Sunday School, volunteered at Vacation Bible School, and participated in countless community outreach programs organized by her church.
To Nikki, her faith was a guiding light. It shaped her beliefs, her sense of justice, and her unwavering compassion for others. She believed in grace, forgiveness, and love in action—and she practiced those values every day, often in quiet ways that only those closest to her would ever know.
Her church family meant the world to her, and she in turn meant the world to them. Her presence was a source of strength and comfort, and her faith remains a shining legacy for all who knew her.
Wildlife Warrior: A Lifelong Advocate for Animals
If there was one cause that rivaled her love for people, it was her love for animals. Nikki was an avid wildlife rehabilitator, dedicating countless hours to the care of injured and orphaned animals. Her home often served as a sanctuary for everything from baby birds to raccoons, squirrels, and even snakes. She never saw an animal as too small or too insignificant to be worthy of care.
Through her work with the Broadbent Wildlife Sanctuary and on her own, Nikki helped hundreds of animals return to the wild. Her knowledge, patience, and gentle hands made her a trusted figure in the rehabilitation community. She believed in coexistence and taught her children, nieces, nephews, and community members about the importance of preserving and protecting Kentucky’s native wildlife.
This passion extended into environmental advocacy and education. Nikki often spoke at local schools and events, sharing her love of nature and encouraging others to become stewards of the earth. Her legacy in this area is one of tireless devotion and quiet transformation.
A Legacy of Love: Family, Community, and Connection
Nikki’s influence extended far beyond her professional or caregiving roles. She was a connector—someone who brought people together, who made others feel seen and valued. She hosted family gatherings, organized community clean-ups, and was the first to volunteer when someone was in need. Whether it was delivering meals to a sick neighbor or organizing a birthday party for someone going through a hard time, Nikki was there.
She had a gift for making people feel like they mattered. Her laughter was contagious. Her words were thoughtful. Her hugs could fix almost anything. She knew how to celebrate others’ successes and sit silently beside them in sorrow.
Nikki was preceded in death by her loving father, Anthony Cabbage, and her grandfathers, Melvin Cabbage and James Bailey. Though her physical presence has left this earth, her spirit continues in those she loved and served.
She is survived by her two beloved children, Jackson Christian (Savannah Healy) and Jaci Christian, and her granddaughter, Blair Avery Christian. She is also survived by her former husband and the father of her children, Jarrod Christian, and her devoted partner, Ed Rhinerson.
Her legacy also lives on through her mother, Kim Miller (Wendell); her grandmothers, Katherine Cabbage and Annatta Bailey; and her sister, Natalie Hardin (Brent). Nikki was an adored aunt to four nephews—Jaden Dukes, Cameron Dukes, Zach Hardin, and Luke Hardin—and was a treasured cousin and friend to many more.
