Brian Adam Doss, Lora Schuman, and Their Three Children Tragically Killed by Carbon Monoxide Poisoning in Gallia County, Ohio
In a heartbreaking incident that has left the Clay Township community in mourning, five family members were found dead inside their home on State Route 7 South on the morning of Tuesday, April 15, 2025. The Gallia County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the cause of death for all five individuals was carbon monoxide poisoning. The adult victims have been identified as 36-year-old Brian Adam Doss and his fiancée, 35-year-old Lora Schuman. The names and ages of the three children, who were also residents of the home, have not been publicly released.
The tragedy unfolded when a family member discovered the bodies at approximately 10:45 a.m. and immediately contacted emergency services. Upon arrival, authorities confirmed that all five individuals had perished inside the residence. Sheriff Matt Champlin stated that no foul play is suspected, and the deaths are being treated as a tragic accident. Preliminary investigations suggest that the family may have used a generator indoors following a recent power outage, which could have led to the buildup of lethal carbon monoxide levels inside the home.
Family members have described the victims as devoted parents and active members of their community. Donna McGuire, Lora Schuman’s sister, shared that the eldest child was a third-grader who was about to celebrate her ninth birthday. She emphasized the family’s deep love for each other and their commitment to their children.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging residents to exercise caution when using generators and to ensure they are properly ventilated to prevent such tragedies. Sheriff Champlin expressed his condolences, stating that the loss of an entire family is a devastating event that has profoundly impacted the community.
