Denise Meyers, a Beloved Educator and Cherished Community Member of Wheatland, Wyoming, Passes Away at 50
Wheatland, WY – The Wheatland community is grappling with the devastating loss of one of its most cherished educators, Denise Meyers. A dedicated and beloved Kindergarten teacher, Denise passed away peacefully on March 22, 2025, at Platte County Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was 50 years old. Known for her gentle spirit, dedication to her students, and deep love for her family, Denise leaves behind a legacy that will be remembered by generations to come.
Born on July 11, 1974, in Safford, Arizona, Denise’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with love, education, and service. Her early childhood was enriched by time spent in Brazil, before she eventually graduated from Wheatland High School. She later attended Sheridan College, where she competed on the rodeo team, and continued her academic journey at South Dakota State University, where she earned a master’s degree in education in Hays, Kansas. Following her studies, Denise returned to Wyoming, the state she proudly called home.
Denise’s teaching career began in Special Education, but it was in the Kindergarten classroom where she truly found her calling. Over her nearly two-decade-long tenure in education, Denise’s students adored her not only for her creative and patient teaching style but also for the way she made every child feel seen and special. Parents spoke highly of her unmatched warmth, her encouraging spirit, and the unique energy she brought to the classroom. For Denise, teaching was never just a job—it was a mission to uplift and inspire the children who were entrusted to her care.
Outside of the classroom, Denise’s greatest joy was her family. She was a proud mother of three children—Jacey, Jackson, and Drew—and never missed a game, recital, or milestone in their lives. Denise was a constant presence in her children’s lives, cheering them on with unwavering pride and love.
She also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, whether it was baking, gardening, or watching TV shows with her family. She cherished these moments, often sharing stories around the dinner table and laughing with those she loved most. Denise’s kindness, nurturing spirit, and caring heart made her beloved by friends, neighbors, and colleagues alike.
Denise is survived by her children, Jacey, Jackson, and Drew; her mother, Linda Willis; her sister, Lisa Mayers; and her nephew, Townes Mir. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Granny and Grandpa Wilson; her grandfather, Rowan Willis; and her sister, Valorie Langley.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at the First Christian Church in Wheatland, with Pastors Casey Schroeder and Cis Fur officiating. Interment will follow at the Wheatland Cemetery. The Wheatland community is invited to a visitation on Thursday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
