Point of View | The teachers union will choose the next JCPS superintendent: VIEWER RESPONSE

If you think the JCPS school board is going to decide on who the new JCPS superintendent will be, you’re only partially right. The real decision maker is the Jefferson County Teachers Association — the teachers union.

They raise hundreds of thousands of dollars to put behind the candidates it wants elected to the board — candidates it can control. Will the next superintendent will be the most qualified candidate available? Maybe, but the top criteria for the board will be someone JCTA has chosen and can control.

Here’s what our viewers had to say:

“Yes, Mr. Lamb, I agree with you. Voters do need to get smarter and quit being lazy.

“Parents need to make it a point to vote for school board members based on what’s best for their student and after researching the candidate opinions and history, not based on who the teachers union prefers.”

“The union just backs certain candidates and they’re going to vote for what’s right for Jefferson County, the kids, the teachers, everybody involved.”

“Hey, this is Taylor Everett. I represent District 7, and I just want people to know from my personal experience, I didn’t take any campaign money from the teachers union or anyone. I never heard from them when it came to picking the superintendent search firm and I haven’t heard from them as far as who they want us to take for the superintendent, for me, and I know the other board members have the same thing, either. So I can’t speak for the whole board, obviously, but just want to give you my perspective as a new board member. Thanks for all you do.”
