Jessica Aber Obituary, Death; – The former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia was discovered deceased in Alexandria on Saturday, according to officials.
Alexandria police reported via social media that they responded to the 900 block of Beverley Drive around 9:18 a.m. on Saturday after receiving reports of an unresponsive woman. Upon their arrival, authorities found a deceased individual later identified as 43-year-old Jessica Aber.
“Following standard protocol, an investigation is currently underway to ascertain the circumstances surrounding her death. The Virginia Chief Medical Examiner’s office will establish the cause and manner of death,” police stated, refraining from disclosing further details regarding the incident.
Aber commenced her career in 2009 at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, where she prosecuted cases involving financial fraud, public corruption, violent crime, and child exploitation. From 2015 to 2016, she was assigned as counsel to the Assistant Attorney General in the Justice Department’s Criminal Division. From 2016 until her appointment as U.S. Attorney, Aber held the position of Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division for the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, as noted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Nominated by Joe Biden on August 10, 2021, Aber received unanimous confirmation from the Senate. On January 20, the day of Donald Trump’s inauguration, she announced her resignation after more than three years in her role.
In her statement, Aber expressed, “I have had the privilege of dedicating my career as a prosecutor in the Eastern District of Virginia, collaborating with talented and diligent public servants who address issues impacting citizens both locally and globally.
“Ending my tenure as U.S. Attorney for the district has been an unparalleled honor. I am profoundly thankful to Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine, as well as President Biden, for the opportunity to lead this office, and to Attorney General Garland for his unwavering leadership. I take pride in the accomplishments we have achieved.”
