(WHTM) – Penn State Football will now play at West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium after the Cumberland County-based home improvement company acquired naming rights to the iconic Penn State field.
The $50 million deal was approved by the Board of Trustees in a 22-8 vote on Monday morning. The new name will begin during the 2025 season and will run through the 2039 season.
Penn State is in the process of a $700 million renovation of Beaver Stadium that will take several seasons to complete. The stadium is named after the former acting president of Penn State and the 20th governor of Pennsylvania, James Beaver.
“We are incredibly grateful to B.J., P.J. and West Shore Home for this game-changing gift as their commitment to Penn State Athletics and the institution will have a lasting impact on our student-athletes, fans and community,” said Patrick Kraft, vice president for intercollegiate athletics. “As an alumnus of our great University and a business owner in Central Pennsylvania, B.J. understands the critical role that Beaver Stadium plays in our community, as well as the importance of preserving the great traditions of Penn State while helping us build a strong future. We are thankful for the Werzyn family and West Shore Home for their generosity and dedication to Penn State.”
“Penn State is a global brand with the largest and most enthusiastic alumni network in the world,” said Werzyn, West Shore Home’s CEO and a Penn State alumnus (Class of ’99). “We’re honored to partner with Penn State in supporting the university and its student-athletes. Penn State’s commitment to achieve academic, philanthropic and athletic excellence mirrors our dedication to our customers and the communities we serve. The entire West Shore team cannot wait to see the Nittany Lions storm West Shore Home Field at Beaver Stadium.”
Werzyn added, “Penn State is a special place that is developing our future leaders. West Shore Home, my family and I are proud to help advance this critical mission.”
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am proud to announce the naming of the field at Beaver Stadium in recognition of the extraordinary generosity of the Werzyn family and West Shore Home,” said David Kleppinger, chair of Penn State’s Board of Trustees. “This forward-thinking gift is yet another powerful example of how the Penn State community coalesces to invest in our future. Their support will not only elevate the game day experience but also has potential to provide Penn State students with applied learning opportunities, which is central to President Bendapudi’s vision. B.J. and P.J. Werzyn, along with their partners at West Shore Home, are setting a new standard for how philanthropy and innovation can shape the future of our University and its students for years to come.”
Construction on the east and west sides of the stadium continues heading into the 2025 season with micropiling on the west side.
During the upcoming season, Penn State fans will see 7,900 temporary bleacher seats installed on top of the suite level, along with temporary concession and restroom amenities for the season. The football program has said they will maintain a fan capacity of more than 100,000.
