Fatal southeast Edmonton pedestrian accident death of Simranpreet Kaur – Obituary
Simranpreet Kaur, a 21-year-old woman, was fatally struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street at Hewes Way and 23 Avenue in southeast Edmonton on Friday evening.
According to Edmonton police, Kaur was crossing at a marked crosswalk with the green light when a 2010 Dodge Ram 2500, turning left from 23 Avenue southbound, hit her around 7:08 p.m. She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
A friend identified Kaur as a recent immigrant from India’s Punjab region who was studying business at NorQuest College. She had dreams of becoming a banker and was described as an honest, cheerful person.
The Edmonton Police Service’s major collision investigations unit is looking into the incident. Authorities stated that speed and intoxication were not suspected factors. It remains unclear whether the 48-year-old driver will face charges.
Kaur’s passing marks Edmonton’s third fatal pedestrian collision of the year. Friends and family gathered at the accident site to pay tribute, leaving flowers and organizing a vigil in her memory.
