An 18-year-old suspect has been taken into custody after 48-year-old Charlene Zuazo was discovered fatally shot inside her vehicle in Anaheim.
Police responded to a crash on the 700 block of North Vine Street around 8 p.m. on March 4, where they found Zuazo with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities had also received reports of gunfire near Vine and Cypress Streets, about half a mile from the crash.
Investigators later connected the two incidents, concluding that Zuazo had been shot before continuing to drive and eventually crashing into a parked car.
Following an investigation, homicide detectives identified 18-year-old Jerry Gutierrez of Cudahy as the suspected shooter.
He was arrested for murder on March 7, and the case will be sent to the Orange County District Attorney’s Office for prosecution.
Authorities have not disclosed a possible motive or whether the suspect and victim knew each other.
