Fatal Tampa shooting death of Brian Jones – Obituary
Brian Jones, a 19-year-old man, was fatally shot during a basketball game at Plantation Park in Tampa on the evening of March 5, 2025.
Authorities from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene just before 7:30 p.m. and discovered two individuals who had been shot. Jones was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, whose identity has not been released, was also taken to the hospital but was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators determined that an argument during the basketball game escalated into gunfire. Deputies later arrested 18-year-old Cabrera Morales on March 6, charging him with second-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned the violence, emphasizing that a game should never result in such a tragic loss of life. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities continue to gather information related to the case.
