Fatal Tampa basketball court shooting death of Brian Jones – Obituary
A 19-year-old man was fatally shot during a basketball game in Tampa on Tuesday evening, according to Florida authorities.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported that deputies responded to Plantation Park just before 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, officers found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, identified as Brian Jones, was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The second victim, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was also hospitalized but was reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators determined that the shooting stemmed from an altercation that broke out during the basketball game. Authorities later identified 18-year-old Cabrera Morales as the suspected shooter. He was taken into custody on Wednesday.
Morales now faces multiple charges, including second-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.
Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned the violence, stating, “A basketball game should never lead to such a tragic and senseless act.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather details about the incident.
