SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) โ Before the parade stepped off Saturday afternoon, another longtime tradition was held in Downtown Scranton.
The Brian P. Kelly Memorial Two-Mile Foot Race took to the streets of Scranton, entirely along the parade route.
It’s known as the oldest road race in the Scranton area.
The race is held every year in honor of Brian P. Kelly, the 2004 Saint Patrick’s Parade Association President, who lost his battle with cancer that same year.
“I’ve never won this race before, so it’s pretty cool being in front. I tip my cap to the other runners, everyone from the first runner to the last. If you’re out there running, it’s a grueling sport, not the, you know, most glamorous, but you’re out there, and you’re doing it. What a great run!” said Factoryville resident and first-place finisher Tim Nowakowski.
Congratulations to everyone who participated.
Runners said it was chilly and windy, but it was still an enjoyable two-mile run to kick off parade day.
