(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Wednesday is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day with storms and strong winds impacting the Carolinas from this morning into the afternoon.
We’ll have a busy morning with a line of storms tracking north and east out of Northeast Georgia and into the Carolinas. This will bring heavy rain, damaging winds, and the potential for hail and an isolated tornado to the area throughout the morning.

Be sure to stay weather-aware and limit travel wherever possible during the peak of storm activity. Winds will continue to be an issue long after the storms are gone through the peak heating hours of the day.
The timing for storms Wednesday morning will likely be between 6 AM and 10 AM, with the brunt of the impacts being felt along the I-77 corridor between 7 AM and 9 AM. With the aggressive rainfall, pooling and ponding in low-lying areas can’t be ruled out as well.
We can see a number of downed trees and spotty power outages due to these storms, which can also perpetuate into the afternoon and evening. Skies will open up a bit, making way for sunshine Wednesday afternoon as highs make a run for the upper 60s.
A wind advisory will be in effect from uptown into our mountains until 7 PM as winds flow out of the south-southwest at between 20 and 25 miles per hour. Wind gusts can be as fast as 50 miles per hour at times, which can continue to impact compromised structures from the morning’s storms.

Lows tonight will be cold, dipping into the 30s and 20s behind the cold front that crossed the Carolinas Wednesday. We’ll rebound into the 50s on Thursday, with a warming trend getting us near 70 degrees again by Saturday. This will be just in time for another front to bring more rain chances heading into Sunday as we spring the clocks forward one hour for the start of daylight saving time.
We’ll be dry and seasonable to kick off early next week.
Wednesday: Morning Storms and Windy with Partly Cloudy Skies in the Afternoon. High: 69.
Weds. Night: Partly Cloudy & Cold. Low: 39.
