Timothy L Johnston Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who was fatally shot by deputies from Jefferson County early Tuesday morning as 39-year-old Timothy L. Johnston, a resident of Cedar Hill.
Johnston was declared deceased at a local hospital following an armed encounter with law enforcement. Sheriff Dave Marshak stated that the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will perform an autopsy to ascertain the official cause of death. Investigators believe that six deputies discharged their weapons at Johnston after he aimed a handgun at them. These deputies have been placed on standard administrative leave, which provides time for debriefing, interviews, investigations, and mental health support.
Officials have indicated that Johnston had no known ties to the residents or the property located in the 8100 block of Old Highway 21, where the incident occurred. Deputies were initially dispatched around 9:30 p.m. on Monday in response to reports of a man knocking on the door of the residence. After several hours of crisis negotiations, Johnston discharged his weapon at the officers, which led to their return of fire.
The investigation is still ongoing.
