Myles Owens V Obituary, Death;- The Metro Nashville Police Department has provided updated details regarding the standoff that occurred on Tuesday morning at a residence in South Nashville, which culminated in the death of a fugitive.
According to MNPD, 30-year-old Myles Owens V was discovered deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the residence located on Benn Hill Drive.
An FBI SWAT team entered the premises after issuing commands for Owens to surrender and confirming his presence inside. He was subsequently located in a stolen sedan parked in the garage, suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. MNPD reported that a firearm was located on his right side.
Owens was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities indicated that Owens was wanted on a federal criminal complaint for charges including possession of an unregistered firearm, possession of a firearm in connection with drug trafficking, and possession of a controlled substance with the intent to distribute. Additionally, he had 20 outstanding failure-to-appear charges in Davidson County and two in Williamson County.
“Detectives from the MNPD Violent Crimes Division had been actively searching for Owens over the past few months following the execution of a search warrant on October 25, 2024, at Extra Space Storage on Charlotte Pike, a location frequented by Owens. The search yielded 119 pounds of marijuana, three rifles, one handgun, six Glock switches (which illegally convert firearms to fully automatic), $81,000 in cash, cocaine, pills, and methamphetamine,” stated MNPD.
The search conducted at the residence on Ben Hill Drive on Tuesday led to the recovery of 70 pounds of marijuana, nearly $50,000 in cash, jewelry, and two firearms. During the search, a known associate of Owens, 31-year-old Kenneth Strickland Jr., approached the scene.
Police reported that Strickland had an outstanding warrant for identity theft and was subsequently taken into custody. Upon his arrest, officers discovered an aftermarket key fob on his person, which they used to locate a nearby stolen Infiniti Q60 that he had arrived in. Inside the stolen vehicle, detectives uncovered two counterfeit items.
