Fatal Merced County car crash death of Javier Delgado Garcia – Obituary
Authorities have identified 17-year-old Javier Delgado Garcia as the teenager who died after his vehicle crashed into a canal in Merced County on February 15, 2025.
The accident occurred around 7 p.m. near Snelling and Youd roads. According to the California Highway Patrol, Garcia was driving a 2016 Nissan Altima northbound on Snelling Road with a 16-year-old female passenger when the vehicle veered off the roadway. The car went through a fence before plunging into the canal, where it became fully submerged.
Emergency responders, including Cal Fire and the Merced County Sheriff’s Office Dive and Rescue team, arrived at the scene and pulled both Garcia and his passenger from the submerged vehicle. They were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Merced, with Garcia later airlifted to Valley Children’s Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries the following day.
The condition of the female passenger has not been disclosed. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash and encourage anyone with information to contact CHP Officer Abdiel Enriquez at 209-356-6600.
