SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Thousands came out for an annual event that gets people chaotic for cardboard it’s the cardboard classic at Montage Mountain.
The question of the day Friday at Montage Mountain isn’t ‘Do you ski or snowboard?’, it’s ‘What sled did you build to make it down the slope?’
The Casino Live! sled is built entirely of cardboard.
The group is one of the contenders for Preston & Steve’s cardboard classic at Mountainfest, an event in its 20th year but third at Montage.
“Some of these creations literally weigh thousands of pounds. I mean that much cardboard, tape, glue, paint, all of that added on and structurally sound,” says Preston.
Some make it down the hill, but others don’t always get that lucky.
That’s where experience comes into play.
Crowds watched the sleds in awe. Enjoying music and vendors is a huge draw for the resort every year.
For those competing to be judged on their sled. This is the championship game, and they are putting in tons of hard work.
All hoping the tons of cardboard, duct tape, rope, and paint will pay off in the end.
Mountainfest at Montage Mountain continues tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. with its pond skim event, and then live music is set to follow.
