James Leon Craig Obituary, Death; – An individual has been apprehended in connection with a domestic shooting that resulted in the death of a man and left a woman injured last month.
On Thursday morning, 23-year-old Tamiya Thomas was arrested in the Ensley Highlands neighborhood by the Birmingham Police Department’s Crime Reduction Team in collaboration with the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force.
Thomas faces charges of capital murder in the case of 40-year-old James Leon Craig, who was shot during the early hours of January 5. Authorities report that they received a call at approximately 2:31 a.m. regarding a shooting incident on 17th Court South in the South Titusville area.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered Craig and a woman both suffering from gunshot wounds. They were subsequently transported to UAB Hospital, where Craig succumbed to his injuries a few hours later.
Investigators believe that a dispute involving multiple individuals occurred inside Craig’s residence, which ultimately escalated into the shooting. Thomas is currently being held at the Jefferson County Jail without the possibility of bond.
