Derrick Coleman Obituary, Death; – The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has announced the arrest of two individuals in connection with a murder investigation from 2022 in Johnston.
On February 14, SLED formally charged 31-year-old Bernard Montreze Chinn with murder, the concealment of human remains, and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime. Additionally, 28-year-old Keyona Shauntay Butler was charged as an accessory after the fact to murder on the same day.
A press release indicated that on November 4, 2022, the Johnston Police Department requested SLED’s assistance in investigating a death. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Derrick Coleman, was later confirmed by the Edgefield County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation received support from both the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office and the Johnston Police Department. Chinn and Butler have been detained at the Edgefield County Detention Center, and the case will be prosecuted by the 11th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
