Kelli Schmitz Iowa Car Accident: Don Bosco High School Student, One and Only Basketball Cheerleader Killed in Tuesday crash in Black Hawk County on Poyner Road At 14
A tragic two-vehicle crash in Black Hawk County on Tuesday morning resulted in the death of a 14-year-old girl and left a 22-year-old woman injured.
At approximately 7:13 a.m., Black Hawk County Deputies were dispatched to the scene of a crash involving a Jeep Cherokee and a Pontiac Sunfire in the 8000 block of Poyner Road.
Upon arrival, first responders found the Jeep fully engulfed in flames. Despite the severity of the fire, the 22-year-old female driver of the Jeep was able to escape the vehicle. She was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
However, the 14-year-old girl was trapped inside the Pontiac Sunfire. Emergency crews worked to free her, and she was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arriving.
The 14-year-old girl has been unofficially identified as Don Bosco High School student and basketball cheerleader Kelli Schmitz.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation as authorities continue to piece together the details of the incident. More information will be released as it becomes available.
