Brion Teel-Scott Obituary, Death; – The United States Air Force has confirmed the identity of the airman who was fatally shot over the weekend near Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico.
Brion Teel-Scott, a 27-year-old resident of Bordentown, New Jersey, lost his life on Saturday following an attempt to evade detention near the Truman Gate in Albuquerque, as stated in a news release from the military installation.
Security personnel responded to the Truman Gate around 2 a.m. local time on Saturday, which led to an “off-base pursuit,” according to the Air Force base. This pursuit culminated in a shooting that resulted in Teel-Scott’s death and left another airman with a gunshot wound to the hand.
Linda Card, a spokesperson for the Air Force based in Quantico, Virginia, informed USA TODAY on Monday that there was no threat to the public. However, she did not provide further details regarding the circumstances surrounding the shooting or disclose the identity of the individual who shot Teel-Scott, citing an ongoing investigation. Teel-Scott was pronounced dead at the scene, and military officials indicated that he was a member of the 377th Security Forces Squadron.
The injured airman was taken to a hospital for treatment and was later released with injuries that were not life-threatening. His identity has not been disclosed. The investigation into Teel-Scott’s cause of death is still ongoing as of Monday.
The case is being investigated by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations in collaboration with the FBI and the Albuquerque Police Department.
“Losing a member of your team is never easy, but the circumstances of this incident make it particularly difficult,” stated Col. Michael Power, commander of the 377th Air Base Wing and Installation, in a statement following the shooting. “We are also committed to ensuring that our injured defender, the Wingmen of both individuals involved, and our base community receive the highest level of care and support.”
