UVA Fatal Shooting; Shelter-in-place Issued At University of Virginia In Charlotte During Seach For Suspect Identified As Nyheem Hill
The University of Virginia (UVA) police issued a shelter-in-place order Tuesday morning as authorities, including state police, actively search for a wanted suspect in the area. The suspect, identified as Nyheem Hill, fled following an off-Grounds traffic stop near Ivy Road and has a known criminal history and gang affiliation.
According to law enforcement, Hill has no known affiliation with the university, but out of an abundance of caution, all UVA community members have been urged to remain indoors until further notice. The situation has caused heightened security measures across campus, with increased police presence and alerts being sent out to students, faculty, and staff.
The ongoing search has also impacted nearby institutions, including St. Anne’s-Belfield School (STAB), which has similarly issued a shelter-in-place order as a precaution. Parents and residents in the surrounding area have been advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to authorities.
Police are actively patrolling the area and using all available resources to locate Hill. UVA police released a photo of the suspect to aid in public awareness and assistance in the search. They are asking anyone who may have seen Hill or has any information regarding his whereabouts to come forward immediately.
University officials and local law enforcement have emphasized the importance of community cooperation during this critical time. “Our top priority is ensuring the safety of our students, faculty, and staff,” said a UVA spokesperson. “We urge everyone to follow safety protocols and shelter in place until we give the all-clear.”
As the situation unfolds, updates will be provided through official UVA channels and local law enforcement agencies. Anyone with information should contact UVA police or state authorities immediately.
