LEHIGHTON, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Police say they investigated multiple cooking oil thefts that occurred within the same area.
On February 20 around 2:10 a.m., officers found a van near a closed business on State Route 443. After further investigation, officers said they arrested a man actively stealing used cooking oil from an outside container.
The man was arrested on multiple misdemeanor charges and his bail was set at $75,000.
Previously on February 8, Lehighton Police Department stated they made contact with a “suspicious van” with three suspects parked alongside a closed business on State Route 443.

Police said the vehicle had equipment associated with cooking oil thefts. All suspects were identified and the incident is still under investigation.
Investigators advise local businesses to monitor exterior containers and if possible, install video cameras and or place “No Trespassing” signs to help so people do not damage the business.
