SPRING BROOK TWP., LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — State police say they arrested a man who allegedly shot a woman in the face when she changed the TV to “Scooby Doo.”
According to Pennsylvania State Police, on February 23 around 10:00 p.m., troopers were called for a woman accusing a man, later identified as James Walsh, 62, of Spring Brook Township, of shooting her in the face.
PSP desk personnel stated they could hear Walsh in the background of the victim’s 911 call saying “You’re gonna die, you’re gonna die.”
Troopers said they arrived at the residence on Deer Run in Spring Brook Township and found Walsh on the couch with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police say Walsh then became combative with troopers but they were able to place him under arrest.
The victim, a 53-year-old woman from Spring Brook Township, was taken to Geisinger CMC where she later told troopers that she was leaving Walsh, that he had a drinking problem, and had become abusive.
State police said the victim claimed she awoke from a nap and saw he had changed the TV channel. The victim changed the channel back to “Scooby Doo” then Walsh got a rifle and fired it at her, striking her in the face.
Walsh has been charged with criminal attempted homicide and aggravated assault.
