The Iowa State Patrol is investigating a tragic incident that occurred outside the Legacy Senior Facility on Sunday morning, claiming the life of 99-year-old Evelyn Bothmer.
At approximately 6:45 a.m., the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a medical call at the facility. As they were leaving the scene, a fire truck, driven by Brandon Pflanzer, allegedly struck Ms. Bothmer, who was a pedestrian at the time.
Evelyn Bothmer was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Known for her warmth, resilience, and life-long dedication to her family and community, Ms. Bothmer’s passing leaves a deep void.
Her family and friends are left to mourn the loss of a woman whose 99 years were filled with love, kindness, and devotion.
