LEWISBURG, UNION COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — One lucky Bucknell student is $10,000 richer thanks to some Big League help on the hard court.
Sunday morning former Major League Baseball player Alex Rodriguez was on campus at Bucknell University. He teamed with Bucknell alumni business partners to speak with students about entrepreneurship.
Afterward, the former New York Yankee and Shark Tank reality show host had a chance to win a Bucknell student $10,000.
With the pressure on, Alex Rodriguez banked home the half-court heave, and Bucknell Sophomore Owen Garwood won $10,000.
Rodriguez is teaming up with business partners who are Bucknell alumni. They are working to secure a majority share of the NBA’s Minnesota Timberwolves.
The visit coincided with Senior Day, as the Bucknell Men’s basketball team defeated the Army Black Knights.
Afterward, 28/22 News spoke with the lucky Bucknell student, who was in shock after the shot went in, securing his $10,000 prize.
“I’m sure a lot of people saw it I sat right in that corner, I put my hands together and prayed and it looked good from the start, and then it went in and I couldn’t believe it,” said Garwood.
Similar contests have run all season long, but no Bucknell student was able to bag the big bucks.
A-Rod made sure he was behind the line, and the shot was on the money.
