Police in Mandeville, Jamaica, have confirmed the identities of the two women who were fatally shot during a candlelight vigil on Nashville Road, off Levy Lane, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The deceased have been identified as 35-year-old Aldeen Dixon, a resident of Coleyville district in northeast Manchester, and 42-year-old Stacy Ann Mulgrave, a resident of Barnstable district near Mandeville.
Initially, reports had suggested that the shooting incident, which also left three others, including a 12-year-old boy, injured, occurred at approximately 2:00 a.m. However, following further investigations, the police have updated their findings, stating that the tragic incident actually took place just before midnight.
According to law enforcement sources, the violence erupted following an altercation that stemmed from a minor traffic incident. It is reported that a vehicle at the scene had collided with another car, leading to an argument. The situation quickly escalated, culminating in gunfire. Five individuals sustained gunshot wounds as a result of the dispute.
Emergency responders swiftly arrived at the scene, and the injured parties were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. Unfortunately, Dixon and Mulgrave succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
Two other victims, whose identities have not been disclosed, remain hospitalized in serious but stable condition. Meanwhile, the 12-year-old boy, who was also injured, received treatment and was subsequently discharged from the hospital.
The alleged shooter, a licensed firearm holder, voluntarily surrendered to the authorities at the Mandeville Police Station following the incident. He is currently in police custody as investigations continue. Law enforcement officials have indicated that a full probe is underway to determine the exact sequence of events and to assess whether any charges will be filed against the suspect.
As news of the tragedy spread, grief-stricken relatives and friends of the victims gathered at the scene throughout the day on Sunday.
