LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Lackawanna County Commissioner Matt McGloin announced he will resign, effective Monday, February 24.
McGloin said in a letter to county chief of staff Brian Jeffers, “This was not an easy decision to make,… but I have to do what’s best for my family and explore other options outside of county government.”
McGloin was in office for nearly 14 months. While in office he was part of the reform and reconstruction of the Office of Youth and Family Services that resulted in the state Department of Human Services restoring its license in December 2024.
The former Penn State and NFL quarterback ran for Lackawanna County Commissioner in 2023 and took office in January of 2024.
The West Side Scranton native holds the Penn State school record of 46 thrown touchdowns.
The Lackawanna County Democratic Party Executive Committee will submit three prospective replacements for McGloin to the Court of Common Pleas. Judges will select McGloin’s successor from those three.
