Allen Dale Warner Jr Obituary, Death; – The individual who was shot and killed during an officer-involved incident in Madras on Thursday has been identified as 26-year-old Allen Dale Warner Jr. An investigation is currently in progress regarding the lethal use of force by law enforcement.
Jefferson County District Attorney Steven Leriche stated in a press release that the Madras Police Department, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, and the Oregon State Police responded to several reports of an altercation occurring on Highway 97 in southern Madras.
A video recorded by a witness shows police surrounding Warner as he walked near the Dollar General store. At one point, Warner seems to bend down to retrieve an object. Shortly thereafter, the individual filming indicates that officers have shot Warner. “It appears Mr. Warner succumbed to injuries inflicted by police at approximately 5:55 PM,” Leriche noted. “In accordance with Oregon law and local protocols, any death resulting from law enforcement actions is subject to a thorough and detailed investigation.”
Another witness informed Central Oregon Daily on Thursday evening that she suspected the shooting was a case of mistaken identity, claiming that another man had assaulted Warner with a pipe.
The Bend Police Department is overseeing the investigation into the use of deadly force. Upon completion of the investigation, the district attorney’s office will assess the case to determine the justification of the shooting. Individuals with information regarding the incident are encouraged to contact Deschutes County Dispatch at 541-693-6911.
