JIM THORPE, CARBON COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Detectives are charging a father after a baby suffered injuries and is now in critical condition.
The Jim Thorpe Borough Police Department and the Carbon County District Attorney’s Office began investigating an aggravated assault of a 27-day-old infant in the 300 block of Chapman Street in Jim Thorpe on February 19.
An investigation started when staff at Lehigh Valley Cedar Crest Hospital alerted Carbon County Children and Youth Services of a near-fatal injury of an infant who suffered blunt force trauma to the head.
As stated in the affidavit, the father of the victim, 30-year-old Edward Bailey, admitted that he could not get the infant to stop crying leading to Bailey being upset and “speed walking down stairs” and then losing his footing causing him and the victim to fall.
Bailey has been charged with aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of children.
The infant remains in critical condition.
Bailey remains in the Carbon County Correctional Facility on $100,000 cash bail.
