Rick Buckler, the renowned drummer of the British band The Jam, passed away on February 17, 2025, at the age of 69, following a brief illness. Born on December 6, 1955, in Woking, Surrey, England, Buckler co-founded The Jam in 1972 with Paul Weller and Bruce Foxton.
The band became a key figure in the mod revival movement, releasing six studio albums and securing four number-one singles during their successful decade-long career.
Paul Weller expressed his grief over the loss, reflecting on their early days together: “I’m shocked and saddened by Rick’s passing. I’m thinking back to us rehearsing in my bedroom on Stanley Road in Woking.” Bruce Foxton also paid tribute, emphasizing Buckler’s impact: “Rick was a good guy and an exceptional drummer, with innovative patterns that shaped our songs.”
After The Jam’s breakup in 1982, Buckler pursued various musical endeavors, including forming the band Time UK and later performing with From the Jam. He also wrote several works about The Jam’s history.
Buckler is survived by his wife, Lesley, and their two children, Jason and Holly. His unique drumming style and lasting influence on music have left a remarkable legacy.
