HAZLE TOWNSHIP, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The International Paper box plant in Hazleton will close on April 14.
The company warned the 107 employees about the February closure in accordance with the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act (WARN).
According to WARN, employers must give a 60-day notice when there are plant closings of over 50 employees or if there are other mass layoffs.
The Memphis-based company announced in a press release a total of 674 employees will be impacted across four locations in the US.
According to the press release, “International Paper is undergoing a transformational journey to become a stronger sustainable packaging solutions company. A critical step in this journey is to streamline IP’s footprint to focus investments on facilities that will best serve customers and accelerate strategic initiatives to improve quality, reliability, and service delivery.”
The plant on Forest Road in Hazleton is set to close on April 14.
