(PINPOINT WEATHER) — Good Sunday Morning! Today is a Pinpoint Weather Alert Day due to stronger storms this morning and strong wind gusts throughout the day.
It is a loud morning across the Carolinas, as a line of gusty showers and thunderstorms moves through the region. Luckily, the severe threat is low with these thunderstorms because of a lack of instability this morning.
However, we are still dealing with 40-50 mph gusts associated with this line of storms. This could lead to power outages and downed trees this morning. Heavy rain and foggy conditions are also hindering visibility, so be sure to drive slowly and use extra caution during your Sunday morning commute.

The rain and storms will move out early today, with the line storms moving east by mid to late morning. A few snow showers will be possible in the mountains as the cold front exits.
Stronger wind gusts will continue into the afternoon. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the Foothills, Piedmont, and Sandhills until 4 p.m. this afternoon, where 40-50 mph gusts are possible through the afternoon. A High Wind Warning is in effect for our mountain counties, where damaging wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible.

Temperatures will rise towards the low to mid-60s around noon today and start to drop back into the 50s during the later afternoon as the cold front ushers in colder air.
A cold and clear night is ahead, with temperatures falling back into the 20s and 30s.
After a cold start to President’s Day, conditions will be chilly for the afternoon, with high temperatures only climbing into the 40s. Another sunny and dry day will come on Tuesday, with temperatures rising back into the 50s after a cold start.

A Pinpoint Weather Alert Day has been issued for Wednesday, as we track the chance for a wintry mix across the Carolinas. Wednesday’s winter weather is looking more likely and it will be a mixed bag of precipitation.
Rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain are all on the table for the Charlotte metro. Details remain low at this time, but it is best to prepare to be inside on Wednesday and possibly early Thursday. Travel will likely be slick.
