BURKE COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — An armed suspect has been taken into custody following an hours-long search in a Morganton neighborhood, according to Burke County Emergency Communications.
Law enforcement and emergency crews responded to the area of Causby Road and Fernwood Drive for the reports of an armed suspect on Wednesday morning.
Glen Alpine Elementary and WA Young Elementary were placed on a soft lockdown as a precaution, authorities confirmed. The lockdowns at the schools have since been lifted.
“Please avoid contact and ensure you are secure inside your home if you live in the circled area. If you see suspicious activity call 911 immediately,” Burke County 911 said Wednesday.
Morganton Public Safety had command of the incident. No word on the suspect’s identity or charges being filed at this time.
