HUNTINGTON, Texas (KETK) — An ambulance “literally” exploded while transporting a patient on Friday afternoon, the Huntington Police Department said.
An Allegiance ambulance exploded while at a red light in Huntington heading north on Highway 69. The patient was quickly removed from the vehicle, officials said.

A person attempted to defuse the smoke with a fire extinguisher but was unsuccessful, as the engine compartment was already fully involved. Fortunately a Huntington fire truck was on his way back from a fire off FM 326 and was able to put the fire out before it reached the patient compartment.
