FORT MILL, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — After 45 years of serving the Fort Mill School District, Superintendent Dr. James “Chuck” Epps announced his retirement Tuesday night.
The announcement came at the start of a school board meeting where Dr. Epps shared a letter detailing his over 49 years total in public education. Dr. Epps worked in many roles throughout his tenure, including coach, teacher, assistant principal, principal, and administrator before becoming Superintendent for the past 15 years.
“Serving this district has been the honor of my professional life,” the letter reads. “I have been privileged to work alongside dedicated educators, staff, board members, parents, and community members, all committed to one goal: providing the very best for our students.”
Under his leadership, the school district doubled in size and grew to be one of the top-performing districts in South Carolina.
Dr. Epps’s official retirement date is June 30, 2025, although he says he is committed to working with the incoming Superintendent through December 31, 2025.
