KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The popular Jiggy with the Piggy festival in Kannapolis is coming to an end after 10 seasons, the city announced.
Officials say the effort to put on the festival won’t be as beneficial to the community as it used to be. “This conclusion has been reached in part due to the positive impacts of the City’s thriving new downtown.” The last festival was held in May 2024.
The popular BBQ festival was in Kannapolis for 10 years and attracted visitors at the start of the city’s Downtown Revitalization Project. Downtown Kannapolis is now home to more than 40 new businesses, restaurants, and hundreds of new residents.
“For the foreseeable future it is unlikely that Jiggy will be replaced with another similar large-scale event. However, the City has decided it is time to explore other opportunities such as partnering with our downtown businesses through Downtown Kannapolis Inc. (DKI), the Cannon Ballers and others to co-host several smaller events throughout the year and also to expand efforts to promote other areas of the City that need revitalization.”
