HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — New housing, retail and office spaces could be coming to Birkdale Village.
Tuesday night, developers will present these plans to the Huntersville Town Board.
Many people who work at the shopping center told Queen City News they see pros and cons to the plan. Overall, they’re pretty excited about what this could mean for the area.
“Generally, I’m definitely pro-development,” said Trey Bright, whose office is located at Birkdale Village. “If the town, community, planning department, all that good stuff approves it, I’m on board for sure.”
Bright is a real estate attorney for Bright Law, PLLC, located in the popular Birkdale Village.
“It’s definitely a ‘happening’ area and for good reason,” he said.
Bight’s office is not far from where developers are hoping to bring a new project. The plan includes building 150 apartments, a 125-room hotel complex, as well as new retail and office spaces.
“A pro is that it would bring a lot more foot traffic to Birkdale, which already has a lot,” said Jordan Erwin, who works at a restaurant in the shopping center.
The main things Erwin is concerned about if town leaders approve the plan are too much traffic and not enough parking.
“On the weekend, Saturdays and Sundays, even Fridays, it does get very, very busy and parking goes pretty quick,” he said.
Documents show part of the developers plan is to offer expanded parking options to accommodate the new businesses and new customers this could bring.
“More business equals more profit, so that’s good,” said Erwin.
This project is a scaled down version of a plan that’s previously been shot down by the town’s board.
