CHARLOTTE, N.C. (PINPOINT WEATHER) — As of Tuesday afternoon, the Queen City has broken a 96-year-old heat record.
As of 2:25 p.m., it was 79 degrees outside. The old record was 76 degrees set back in 1927.
Charlotte could hit 80 degrees on Tuesday. If we do, it would be the second earliest we have ever hit 80 degrees to start the year in Charlotte.
We’ll be cool Tuesday evening as mostly clear skies linger. We can expect a big cooldown Wednesday as a mostly dry, cold front tracks south over the Carolinas.
Clouds will build heading into Wednesday, and much cooler temperatures will prevail. Highs will be limited to the mid-50s on Tuesday, which lands right on the money for a normal February afternoon.
Rain looks to move in late in the day Wednesday and linger overnight into the second half of the work week. The 60s and 70s will return this time with a bit more cloud cover and intermittent rain chances lasting into the weekend.
Saturday and Sunday will hit the mid-60s and low 70s as overnight lows dip into the 50s. Look for low 50s, mostly cloudy skies, and low rain chances to settle in on Monday to kick off the work week.
Tuesday: Mostly sunny and very warm. High: 75.
Tuesday Night: Partly cloudy and chilly. Low: 47.
